Ms. Katie Yochheim is a recent graduate of the Music Education Program at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music with broad experience across band- and choir-related classrooms and a passion for teaching the whole student. From January to February of 2025, Katie worked as a long-term choral substitute at Rittman Exempted Village Schools teaching 5 different choirs and 3 high school level electives each day. She completed her clinical practice student teaching experience in the fall of 2024 at Coventry Local Schools Middle and High School, working with students grades 5-12 spread across 8 different choral ensembles. Katie worked with middle and high school students at Baldwin Wallace Community Arts School as a camp counselor, section leader, and vocal assistant at their band, music theater, choir, and Conservatory Summer Institute camps in the summers of 2022 and 2023. While at Baldwin Wallace, Katie directed rehearsals and performances for Moondaze, a student-led vocal jazz a cappella group at Baldwin Wallace University, from Spring of 2023 to Spring of 2024. Katie made the Dean’s list every semester of her undergraduate collegiate career (Spring 2021-Fall 2024) and earned a 3.95 cumulative GPA, graduating summa cum laude. Katie has taken private voice and piano lessons consistently for over eleven years. Additionally, she has several years of experience playing guitar, saxophone, clarinet, and xylophone in jazz bands, marching bands, concert bands, and percussion ensembles. She has taught beginner piano and voice lessons to over 15 students since August 2022. As a former music therapy major, Katie also has a background in music therapy interventions and research and has therefore taken multiple music therapy classes with 100+ clinical fieldwork hours. Her experiences in this field have allowed her to develop deeper social and emotional connections with her students and use trauma-informed pedagogies to maintain a safe learning environment accommodating students of all backgrounds.
Katie has facilitated general music-, band-, and choir-related lessons across grades k-12 at several schools in Northeast Ohio, including Bay Middle School, Lakewood Elementary School, Brunswick Middle School, and Coventry High School and Middle School. Katie is a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA), the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), and the Dalcroze Society of America (DSA). She recently attended the 2024 and 2023 OMEA conferences, the 2024 ACDA Regional Conference, the 2023 ACDA National Conference, and the 2023 DSA National Conference to develop and strengthen her skills as a future music educator.
