Katie Yochheim's Statement on
Access and Equity
My first steps to instilling access and equity in my classroom will be removing any barriers that prevent students from participating fully in choir and creating a safe, inclusive classroom environment where students feel supported no matter what.

Inclusivity
All students should feel safe, respected, valued, and heard in the classroom. No matter what, we are all human and should value and respect each other regardless of differences. In a music classroom, we have the unique opportunity to be brought together in a joint experience that requires us to employ our differences as a strength. Inclusivity will be established in my classroom through the practice of mutual respect, responsible music programming, student-centered teaching practices, and the acknowledgement that diversity is a strength.

Removing Barriers
Students of all different backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, identities, and life experiences will find a place in my classroom. Removing any physical, financial, cultural, or other barriers will allow anyone and everyone to become involved. With support from myself, peers, and other community resources, I will ensure that any willing student has a way to participate in a fulfilling music-making experience.
